Cultivate or re-establish resilience

Resilience isn’t about pushing through, overriding yourself, or learning to ‘manage’ symptoms.  


It’s about rebuilding your nervous system’s capacity for flexibility, recovery, & internal safety, so that life no longer feels like something you must perpetually brace for & anticipate for the worst case scenario to occur.

Resilience is cultivated by: 


  • Expanding nervous system flexibility


  • Releasing perfectionism, false-positivity & self-betrayal


  • Choosing Integrity, peace, & authenticity over performance & validation.


In doing so, you respond to life with: 


  • Proportionality


  • Grounded presence 


  • Self-trust

Release perfectionism, False Positivity & Self-Betrayal

Perfectionism, forced positivity, emotional suppression & self-override aren’t personality traits.


They‘re adaptive nervous system strategies, that form when the body learns that:


  • Emotional expression increases threat


  • Slowing down feels unsafe 


  • Needs can’t be met reliably


  • Authenticity destabilises authority, connection, or survival.

For some people, this meant avoiding conflict & becoming agreeable 

For others, it meant becoming exceptionally capable, while silently disconnected from self.

These strategies manifest when you learn that it feels safer to live in continual self-management, in order to preserve: 


  • Emotional composure, instead of authentic emotional expression. 


  • Ensure strength as self-protection, rather than show vulnerability.


  • Ensure High level functionality over thoughts, feelings, emotions, productivity,, rather than authentically feeling


  • Stay invisible or self-contained, rather than being seen for who you are, or feeling exposed


As nervous system safety is restored, a physiological shift occurs; facilitating coherence, where you: 


  • You start intentionally choosing integrity & discernment over self-override.
  • You begin to intentionally decide on authenticity over performance.
  • You consciously choose attunement & regulation over survival-based control. 
  • You intentionally choose relationships in all areas of your life that nourish wellbeing & are’t rooted in unconscious attraction dynamics, trauma-bonded loyalty, or unhealed wounds.


You begin to release:


  • Performing competence or resilience while feeling internally depleted; as though you’re running on empty.


  • Minimising or even missing bodily cues & signals in order to keep functioning.


  • Overriding discomfort to maintain consistency, predictability or stability.


  • Confusing endurance, self-containment or emotional restriction with resilience & strength.


You stop adapting to conditions that require you to shrink or armour

You no longer contort yourself to:


  • Fit or adapt to environments or people that reward hyper-functioning at the cost of your wellbeing.


  • You stop associating with people who normalise harmful behavioural dynamics 


  • Dynamics that require emotional suppression or numbing your needs & emotions in order to be productive. 


  • Systems where honesty, rest or vulnerability feel destabilising.


Instead, you begin to live from internal permission rather than self-policing your every move.

Respond to life’s intensity with Proportionality, Grounded Presence & Self-Trust

Rather than collapsing, emotionally reacting or dissociating 

Understanding PTSD &;C-PTSD as Acquired Neurodivergence

PTSD & C-PTSD result of a highly intelligent nervous system that adapted to survive conditions of instability, prolonged stress, threat & danger.

In this sense, PTSD & C-PTSD can e understood as acquired forms of neurodivergence; not because your nervous system is defective but because it was reshaped by experience.

Your brain & body learned:

  • To scan constantly for danger
  • To prioritise speed over nuance
  • To shut down sensation when it becomes overwhelming 
  • To stay ready for impact, even when the threat has passed. 

How Trauma Creates neurodivergent Processing

Under repeated or overwhelming threat, the nervous system reorganises itself ensuring survival.


This can impact on how you:


  • Process information 


  • Interpret cues around safety, threat & danger


  • Regulate emotions


  • Experience intimacy, pleasure & connection 


  • Respond to stress, conflict & uncertainty


In PTSD & especially, C-PTSD, the nervous system might become:


  • Faster to activate 


  • Slower to settle


  • Highly sensitive to relational cues 


  • Prone to collapse or dissociative responses when overwhelmed, or due to prolonged  exposure to stress & trauma.n
